Violet Eyes (2010)

Elizabeth turned to Twitter in 2009 for help naming her new fragrance. Asking her followers to choose between “Follow Me” and “Violet Eyes,” the latter eventually won “hands down”. The intoxicating perfume arrived in stores the following year.

Violet Eyes was a collaboration between Elizabeth and Carlos Benaïm, the master perfumer behind her most iconic fragrance, White Diamonds. “I love floral fragrances and wanted Violet Eyes to make women feel beautiful, sophisticated, and sensual, using a bouquet of scents that I adore,” Elizabeth explained. “It was a great joy to create this fragrance and work on every aspect of it. Everything, down to the very last detail, comes from my heart and my soul. I send this fragrance into the world with love…”

Violet Eyes was the final Elizabeth Taylor fragrance released in her lifetime. Since her death, in 2011, House of Taylor has continued to expand Elizabeth’s fragrance empire, adding five additional fragrances to the collection inspired by the wildly successful White Diamonds. Elizabeth’s express wish was that twenty percent of the profits from all her fragrances benefit the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

The print campaign featured a portrait by Douglas Kirkland taken in Las Vegas in 1961, accompanied by the slogan “It begins with a look.”
