After separating from Nicky Hilton, Elizabeth moved into a low-rise, pink stucco apartment building at 1060 Wilshire Boulevard in the Westwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles. “This bachelor apartment is my first move in getting reorganized,” she explained to gossip columnist Hedda Hopper. She shared the five-room, two-bedroom apartment with friend and secretary, Peggy Routledge. More familiar faces lived nearby—Little Women co-star Janet Leigh and her then-husband, Tony Curtis, were downstairs neighbours.

Although initially a “bachelor apartment,” Elizabeth continued to call Wilshire Boulevard home until she and Michael Wilding, who were expecting their first child, decided it was time to look for a larger home to accommodate their growing family.
