Elizabeth temporarily called Michael Wilding’s flat in Bruton Street home after the two married in 1952. Bruton Street, in London’s tony Mayfair neighbourhood, is famous for being the birthplace of Queen Elizabeth II, who was born at her maternal grandparents’ home at number 17. One of the Wildings’ two wedding receptions was held at the Bruton Street flat (the other was at Claridge’s). The two enjoyed entertaining in the antiques-filled flat, and it was there that Elizabeth posed for a portrait painted by Michael, an accomplished artist who studied in Brussels.
