After Elizabeth and Nicky Hilton married in 1950, the newlyweds lived in a five-room suite at the storied mission-style Hotel Bel-Air, which was also the location of their wedding reception. (Nicky, whose father, Conrad Hilton Sr. had a major interest in the hotel, was its manager.) The couple planned to build their own home and only intended to live at the Hotel Bel-Air temporarily, but separated in December of the same year.

The Hotel Bel-Air, nestled in the canyon hills, was originally built in 1922 as the estate planning office for visionary developer Alphonzo Bell’s Bel-Air enclave. It was later turned into a hotel and began welcoming guests in 1946.
