Elizabeth and some of her fellow warriors in the fight against AIDS were guests on Larry King Live to discuss the AIDS epidemic. Earlier that day, she had participated in a forum on AIDS research and policy at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

She spoke passionately about what compelled her to join the fight against AIDS and advocate fiercely for education and needle exchange programs. King asked whether, while visiting AIDS patients in hospices, they discuss the disease. “Sometimes I will ask them, ‘What is it you need that we don’t know about? That the government doesn’t know about? That we at amfAR, or me at ETAF [the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation], that we don't know about?’” Elizabeth recalled one man in Italy telling her: “I just want someone to put their arms around me, that’s all, and to treat me like a human being.”

Elizabeth was joined for a segment by amfAR’s Founding Co-chair and Chairman of the Board Dr. Mathilde Krim. Dr. Krim spoke of what Elizabeth’s involvement has meant to the fight against AIDS: “She meant a lot to this because she was somebody people knew, people admired, people respected, and she spoke up to the public, directly to the public, and she had more of an impact than any of us could have”.
