The 25th Academy Awards
Aired: March 19, 1953 on NBC
While the Oscars are always Hollywood’s biggest night, the 25th Academy Awards ceremony on March 19, 1953 was extra special, as it marked the first time the awards were televised. (It was also the first time the Academy Awards were bicoastal, with simultaneous ceremonies at both the RKO Pantages Theatre in Hollywood and New York’s International Theatre.)
Elizabeth, who attended on the arm of husband Michael Wilding, wore a cream-coloured gown that Helen Rose had designed for her to wear in The Girl Who Had Everything (1953), released later the same month.
