The 58th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Dame Elizabeth graced the stage at the Golden Globes to present the final award of the evening: Best Motion Picture - Drama. She was introduced by Jeff Bridges (who, like Elizabeth, also appeared in 1979’s Winter Kills). “I have the privilege of introducing one of Hollywood's all-time great stars,” he said. “Ladies and gentlemen, Dame Elizabeth Taylor!”

She received a standing ovation from a star-studded audience that included Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Faye Dunaway, Al Pacino, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, and Hillary Swank. “Throughout the evening, we’ve seen clips from the six nominated films,” she said. “Now it's time to find out which one will take home the Golden Globe. Once again, here are the nominees.” But instead of reminding everyone the names of the films nominated in the Best Motion Picture - Drama category, Dame Elizabeth nearly announced the winner. “I’m new at this,” she joked, to the delight of the audience.

The Golden Globe went to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator (2000).

Elizabeth wore a Valentino evening gown of black sheer chiffon. Her jewelry included her Van Cleef & Arpels art deco diamond bow brooch, a pair of diamond and cultured pearl ear pendants, and Cartier diamond line necklace.
