Elizabeth sat down with actor and television host Gary Collins for an interview that aired over five days on his syndicated daytime talk show, Hour Magazine.
The conversation was ostensibly to promote the release of her very first fragrance, Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion, which had recently landed in fine department stores. Earlier that year, in April, the Hour Magazine had “an opportunity to accompany Elizabeth Taylor to a press preview of the perfume” where she “unveiled for the first time her luxurious new fragrance line”. Portions were shown of “a special video presentation which let the audience see how Elizabeth Taylor’s Passion was created.” It included Sherry Baker and Michael Horowitz, Parfums International’s Vice President, Marketing and General Manager, respectively, and some of the incredibly talented creatives behind the commercials, print ads, and photo sessions: photographer Gary Bernstein, designer Nolan Miller, make-up artist Francesca Tolot, and hair stylist José Eber.
Elizabeth also talked about her most cherished role, that of mother and grandmother, as well as friendship: “What it means to her, how she values her friends, and, in turn, what they feel about her.” Those friends speaking about how they feel about Elizabeth were Carole Bayer Sager, Robert Wagner, and Roddy McDowall. On Roddy, Elizabeth says: “We can pick up in mid-conversation, mid-thought... whether it’s been hours, days, weeks, months, we’re always sort of on the same beam, the same plateau. I know that he’s there for me, he knows that I’m there for him, no matter what.”
